Projects & collaborations
Egon Bondy, Prašná bašta, Stoka, the Call for Scores, a symphony orchestra, an opera. Things we did because we enjoyed them.
Urban Songs
Philosopher and poet Egon Bondy sings old Prague pub songs, the Berlin tearjerker In den Teichen and one Odessa gangster song. Between them, Piaček’s instrumental “Bratislava” pieces. Požoň’s most successful project, one that could be done only with him.
Prašná bašta
For more than twenty years the café-restaurant Prašná bašta at Zámočnícka 11, by the stone wall of the town fortifications, was Požoň’s unofficial home stage. We played there unamplified, over wine, amid the guests’ conversation – the way the café bands of old Pressburg used to. The café no longer exists in that form.
Lapšanský in Stoka
Stars of the performing firmament – Marian Lapšanský, Jiří Bárta, Magdaléna Hajóssyová, Eugen Indjić, Peter Mikuláš – on the creaky upright of the alternative Stoka theatre, accompanied by the Middle-class Chamber Orchestra playing arrangements of Grieg, Saint-Saëns, Dvořák, Poulenc and the Dallas theme. A ticket cost fifty crowns.
Call for Scores
We did not want to wait for the organizers to accept us. We made the first step: we asked composers to write us pieces – under five minutes, connected with the place where they live, regional rather than national.
Middle-class Symphony Orchestra
For one festival the quartet grew into the thirty-piece Middle-class Symphony Orchestra and choir: Piaček’s symphony Nuntium Magnum, Zagar’s Festive Overture and Burgr’s oratorio The Last Kiss to a Dead Man opened the 10th Evenings of New Music.
The Daughter of Glory
Ján Kollár wrote the Prelude to The Daughter of Glory in classical hexameter. In 1998 Požoň Sentimental turned it into rap – and so that the audience knew what was at stake, it was preceded by a scholarly lecture on the problems of the hexameter.
The Last Flight
Marek Piaček’s opera on General Milan Rastislav Štefánik, libretto by Egon Bondy and Elena Kmeťová. Premiered on 14 December 2001 at the Stoka theatre during the Evenings of New Music “Point Zero”, with Požoň Sentimental in extended line-up.
Stoka Theatre and SkRAT
We have worked with Blaho Uhlár’s theatre since 1995: music to Cocteau’s poetry, Dance Hall I (1997), the production Faces (1998), the New Year’s Eve show Prepad (1998/99), foyer concerts, the Lapšanský in Stoka series, the operas The Last Flight and Death in the Kitchen (2001), What Will Be Tomorrow (2001, SkRAT) and in 2024 an evening for Blaho Uhlár at A4.
